Paul O'Mahony has an impressive Twitter 37K+ followers base and his Rethink Social Media program outlines multiple tips on how you can grow your followers too.
1. Build a Perfect profile - use your name, your photo and create a nice description of what you do, what your business is about and you can add a link to your page. Make it stand out so people would want to follow you.
2. Create a Banner - use a free tool like Canva.com to create a Twitter Banner with the colours and messaging that is in the same colour range as your photo and conveys a message about your business. You can even add a link to your website on the banner.
3. Use Trends and #Hashtags - identify key trends on Twitter and use them in your posts as when you have no or very few followers, this is how you'll gain visibility. Tweets with # are twice as likely to receive engagement as a like or a retweet.
4. Use images, video and GIFs - Twitter users love these formats and this will drastically increase your engagement.
5. Use @Mentions - give kudos to someone with lots of followers and if they like or share your Tweet, you have a higher chance of attracting more followers.
6. Follow MANY people - if you follow someone, there is 50% chance they might follow you back. Especially if you have a good profile. You can follow people that are leaders in your field, then follow their followers. You can also follow the people with lots of engagement but also newbies as they are more likely to follow you back.
7. Search for prospects - you can use the Twitter search by typing the pain points of your prospects. For example "I want to lose weight" or "I want to learn to cook", etc.. This will show you a long list of people who tweet about it. Just follow them, message them, engage with them on Twitter as they are your potential target.
8. Use the words that are most popular for retweeting - using the words on the image above will drastically increase your chances of retweeting. Also, use verbs and adverbs to show action oriented content. Don't capitalize every word - just use sentences as they are more popular.
